Where do we go from here?
This is again not a simple question to answer. There is so much to discuss, yet there is never enough time. To finish with our last thoughts on terrorism though, it is important to remember that many terrorists are people who had no place in society. They were social outcasts, misfits, and were the poor and downtrodden of their communities. Terrorist groups have given them that sense of brotherhood and camaraderie that they were unable to get anywhere else. This does not, or ever will, make what they have done right, but it makes it understandable, and shows that underneath all that hatred, there is a human being somewhere.
The only way to go from here is being willing to have these difficult discussions, and not to get embroiled in partisan political squabbles that do nothing but promote hatred. Ultimately, the only way to defeat an idea is to show how lacking it is, and that your way is better, by showing the correct evidence. Next time you see someone at school who does not have a friend, go say hello. Next time you see someone being bullied, stand up for them and let that person know they are not alone. You could be the difference between that person growing up to be a contributing member of society, or being the next school shooter or terrorist. Keep that in mind.
It is hoped that this class has given you the tools to conduct research on, and have discussions about, difficult topics, and to be objective whenever you do. Remember what you have learned here, and apply it outside of the classroom now. The future of the world is in your hands.
